What is the order process for a translation?

First of all, send me an enquiry. I will then provide you with an individual cost estimate for this enquiry. If you agree to this, you accept it. I will then prepare the desired translation order by the desired deadline. The modalities and terms of payment are regulated in the cost estimate.

What information do translators need for a quote?

In order to provide a customised quote, I need to take a look at the document to be translated and I need the following information:

• DOCUMENT (scanned/photographed if original)

• LANGUAGES?

• WHEN? (date/deadline)

• WHAT? (Certificate, flyer, article, insurance history etc.)

• HOW? (certified or not)

• WHO? (Recipients/consumers of the translation)

• WHAT FOR? Will the translation be used publicly?

How much does it cost/how is the cost of a translation calculated?

Each request is individual, therefore there are no standard prices for translations. Depending on the enquiry, an individual cost estimate is provided. In Germany, we normally charge by standard line (55 characters). In other countries it is common to charge by the word. A flat rate is charged if the documents are not editable, the lines cannot be counted and therefore the amount of work must be estimated (e.g. certificates). Formats such as Excel, PDF, JPG or PowerPoint are somewhat more expensive, as they are more time-consuming to edit. For translations that have to be done very quickly or over the weekend, a rush (within 3 days) or weekend surcharge applies.

What is the processing time for translations?

The processing time depends on the volume and difficulty of the translation and is estimated by reviewing the document and communicated in the estimate.

What is the difference in certified translations?

Certified translations (e.g. of birth/marriage certificates, court decisions, contracts, etc.) can only be carried out by translators authorised by the courts. The document/deed is not only translated linguistically accurately, but also true to format and finally provided with a certification sentence and stamp by the translator.

What should I bear in mind for sworn translations?

For a cost estimate, I need to see the document in advance. Documents must therefore be scanned/photographed and sent to me in their entirety and in very good quality in order for me to be able to quote the price and duration.

A finished certified translation will then be sent by me physically as a registered letter via the postal service to the address given.
